Over 100,000 PUBG Cheaters To Be Banned In Upcoming Update
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is currently testing new balance changes to the blue zone, as well as a few other combat enhancements. In addition to the newest batch of tweaks currently live on the test servers, the developer also brought up the topic of PUBG cheaters in its latest blog post. Cheaters have been a major issue within PUBG since the battle royale game made its debut on Steam’s Early Access platform early last year and the problem has only worsened over time, with the amount of PUBG cheaters being banned climbing into the millions.
In an effort to combat the infestation of cheaters, the PUBG team did an extensive gameplay data review which resulted in identifying a pattern within data logs that heavily indicates the use of cheats. As a direct result of the investigation over 100,000 PUBG cheaters will be banned in a single wave, though the rollout time for the wave was not disclosed. Here’s the full report from Bluehole:
We recently discovered a new pattern of cheats in action. This week, we performed a thorough gameplay data review of 10 million players and completed analysis of tens of millions of data logs. Through this exercise, we were able to identify over 100,000 instances of the new pattern related to use of cheat and now we have confirmed that it was clearly an attempt of compromising our game. These players will be permanently banned in a single wave. This is an example of additional measures we will be taking on top of the basic detection systems in place. We will continue to check the data logs like this even if it means the anti-cheat team has to filter through hundreds of billions of data logs manually. In addition, we are looking into adopting a new solution to detect and ban more cheaters and we have been continuously strengthening our security systems. We have also liaised with investigative authorities in some countries to take legal actions against developers and distributors of cheats. We are determined to take strong measures against them going forward.”
Between Bluehole’s dedication to banning cheaters and Chinese publisher Tencent’s committment to cracking down on cheat makers, the PUBG servers are becoming much less hospitable for those looking to illegally sour the gameplay experiences of others. Hopefully both developers and publishers continue their efforts in making all games cheater-free, or as close to it as can be reasonably accomplished. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is available now for PC and Xbox One.
So, thoughts on the recent actions from both Bluehole and Tencent in regards to cheaters? Do you feel that the actions taken against them are too lenient or too strong?
