Gwent’s Solo Campaign Thronebreaker Delayed Until 2018

GWENT: Thronebreaker

Gwent, the popular card game to make its way out of The Witcher franchise, has been kicking around in open beta on PC and Xbox One since May 2017. What’s even better, the developer announced a single-player campaign that would provide players with more depth into the game. Thronebreaker was originally planned for launch this year, but a recent update by CD Projekt RED tells us that the title has been delayed until 2018.

Even though a solid release date was not yet announced for Gwent‘s solo campaign, it was still exciting to know that it would be arriving in the near future. Now that it has been delayed, many may be wondering as to why? Typically, games are pushed back to fix bugs and make sure everything is right. The developer is likely doing this as well, but it isn’t the main reason for the delay. It’s to make the game even bigger than initially planned. CD Projekt RED co-founder Marcin Iwiński had this to say:

Dear gamers!

We’ve decided to introduce changes to GWENT’s development roadmap, and I’d like to take a brief moment of your time to share them with you.

Thronebreaker, GWENT’s story-driven single player campaign, is moving to 2018. We decided to increase the campaign’s scope and need more time to work on it. Shifting release windows is always something we approach seriously, however, we’ll never hesitate to do it if we feel you’ll get a better game as a result. I would like to apologize everyone who planned to play Thronebreaker over the Holidays — I assure you that we will do our best to make the final game worth the additional wait.

Secondly, since 2018 is the year we plan to take GWENT out of beta, we’ll be increasing the tempo of multiplayer update releases. We want you to have more fun playing, but we also want to welcome new gamers into an already rolling multiplayer ecosystem. Expect content additions like cards, challenges, vanity items, but also game patches, and balance tweaks to be published more frequently.”

As can be seen in the post above, while Thronebreaker is being delayed, it is for good reasons. Multiplayer is also brought up, with the frequency of updates being increased and a plethora of new upcoming content that will provide players with all sorts of fun. What could be better than more content?

Gwent is currently in open beta for PC and Xbox One, with a full launch expected for 2018 alongside a PlayStation 4 release. Thronebreaker is also planned for next year, so stay tuned to Don’t Feed the Gamers as this story develops, and for more gaming news, check out the following:
