Lords of the Fallen Sequel Still in Production However Don’t Hold Your Breath for its Release
CI Games’ Lords of the Fallen (LoF) offered a familiar style to fans of the Dark Souls franchise. Though not as infuriatingly difficult as Dark Souls, LoF did fairly well in sales and fans have been waiting for CI Games to release a Lords of the Fallen sequel. The developer is still working on the game, but fans shouldn’t hold their breath for a release in the near future.
After a bug-filled attempt at Sniper Ghost Warrior 3, CI Games had stated that they were no longer going to pursue competing for triple-A blockbuster hit games. This definitely raised some questions as to whether or not the Lords of the Fallen sequel was still in the company’s plans. During an interview, CI Games CEO, Marek Tyminski that the sequel is still happening, but the team is working on LoF2 is quite small, but that they are devoted to bringing a quality game to the market.
What we said about departing from triple-A: it means that we can really focus on the quality of our products, not thinking we have to match the scale of the major releases. From our standpoint it doesn’t mean anything negative.
It goes for the Lords of the Fallen sequel as well. It doesn’t mean that we are not continuing with Lords of the Fallen – we definitely have that game in our plans and we definitely want to make this a great game. We’re very serious about Lords of the Fallen the sequel. It’s nothing like going halfway: this is definitely the quality way.”
Originally Tyminski had announced that LoF2 would be releasing sometime in 2017 however with the company’s changes, it is highly unlikely that will happen. The developers are taking their time to offer quality over pushing a triple-A title out just for the sake of sales. So, how long do fans have to wait for the Lords of the Fallen sequel? While it may not be releasing this year, Tyminski says it shouldn’t be too far into the future:
“I wouldn’t say it’s a couple of years away. We’ve been working quite a lot on Lords of the Fallen 2, we really did a lot. It’s really finding the best teams who can work on that game together, and when we have that setting, we pretty much know what we want to do.”
