The Surge Launch Trailer Releases Ahead of Next Week’s Debut (VIDEO)
A cinematic trailer been revealed by Deck13 Interactive ahead of the debut for its latest title coming next week. Although it doesn’t reveal anything in the way of actual gameplay mechanics and footage, it’s a cinematic trailer on the main storyline for the title. Set in a dystopian world, players take on the role of a man named Warren who must fight for his life utilizing a super-powered exoskeleton. Check out The Surge launch trailer below:
A catastrophic event has knocked you out during the first day on the job… you wake up equipped with a heavy-grade exoskeleton, in a destroyed section of the complex. Robots gone haywire, insane augmented co-workers and rogue AI – everything wants you dead.
Defy deadly enemies and huge bosses in tight, visceral melee combat. Target and slice specific limbs off your foes, with a next-gen loot system where you loot what you dismember. Equip, upgrade and craft new weapons and armors sliced from enemies, and make yourself stronger through a fresh take on leveling-up.
The beginning of the video is eerily cheery with the well-poised voice of someone seducing you into a deal that is too good to be true. Starting with the questions “Don’t you want to wake up to a brighter future? Isn’t that what everyone wants?” foreshadows the exact opposite. Shortly thereafter, error messages and glitches appear on the screen and the eerie sound of pierced flesh and screaming is the only thing you hear. Yikes.
Previously, Deck13 was competing with Dark Souls 2 with a similarly styled game called Lords of the Fallen. While not a badly executed game, there was critical mixed feedback regarding its combat system and content. However, this game seems to be a refreshing direction for the studio while remaining true to a brawler type title.
