Jade Raymond Studio Acquired By PlayStation

Jade Raymond Haven Studios PlayStation

Just over a year after spearheading a new PlayStation-exclusive project, Sony and Haven Studios are officially putting a ring on it. Founded by industry veteran Jade Raymond, Haven Studios was revealed as the latest in several recent acquisitions of the PlayStation Studios umbrella, with company boss Hermen Hulst announcing the news in a new PS Blog post.

”From their first pitch, we were inspired by Haven’s vision for creating a modern multiplayer experience that brings gamers together in positive and meaningful ways,” Hulst said of the Jade Raymond-led studio. “We were confident in their creative and technical expertise to deliver on such an ambitious project and were thrilled to invest in their journey developing a new, original IP for PlayStation.”

After leaving her mark at Ubisoft as producer and managing director for the Assassin’s Creed and Watch Dogs franchises, Jade Raymond formally unveiled Haven in 2021 as a new Montreal-based indie studio underway on a new PlayStation-exclusive IP. Described as a “AAA multiplayer experience,” little was initially known about the project, and while that still remains true, Raymond suggested the IP would be focused around “freedom, thrill, and playfulness” in the new blog post.

“Our goal was to build a studio where we could make the kind of games we’ve always wanted to create – and games we’ve longed to play,” Jade Raymond said. “Our first new IP for PlayStation is on track to deliver a AAA multiplayer experience with a vision to build a systemic and evolving world focused on freedom, thrill, and playfulness that will keep players entertained and engaged for years.” Raymond also commented on the acquisition itself, saying:

“As a SIE first-party studio, we will have the opportunity to collaborate with some of the world’s most renowned development teams, including studios like Guerrilla, Naughty Dog, Media Molecule, and Insomniac Games, the creators of games that have inspired us as players and developers for years.”
