Mortal Kombat And Killer Instinct Arcade Cabinets Unveiled By Arcade1Up
While the glory days of arcades being the forefront of the video game industry are fairly long gone, games from the era still have many forms of preservation in the industry. Companies like Stern Pinball are able to make modern pinball machines utilizing media properties like Stranger Things, and companies like Arcade1Up have sought to create affordable 3/4-scale arcade cabinets that can fit in one’s home. Thanks to Arcade1Up, the classic stand-up cabinet versions of games like Street Fighter II and NBA Jam have lived on in the current day. Now, the company has unveiled two new Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct arcade machines.
Arcade1Up listed the new Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct arcade cabinets on their official website. Created in celebration of the original Mortal Kombat game, the new arcade cabinet was produced in a partnership with Midway Games. This version of the cabinet comes with the fighting game’s original trilogy – MK1, MK2. MK3, and Ultimate MK3 – in addition to 10 other classic Midway games including Joust, Defender, and Rampage. Remarkably, this cabinet will also be the first Midway-licensed Mortal Kombat cabinet that allows for online remote play.
Along with Mortal Kombat, Arcade1Up has also unveiled a new full-size iteration for Killer Instinct. The company has produced smaller 3/4-size Killer Instinct cabinets before, but this new version sees the arcade titan upgraded as part of the new Arcade1Up Pro Series line. Characterized by its larger design, the Killer Instinct Pro cabinet uses a 19-inch screen (as opposed to their usual 17-inch screens) and has upgraded buttons, joysticks, and speakers. This version differs from the company’s other smaller-scale cabinets that allow for better fits in personal homes.
Prices and release dates weren’t included as part of the announcement, but more information should come sooner rather than later. Arcade1Up has stated that the Pro Series will be the first in a line of future games to be reissued in the future. In all, these Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct arcade cabinets are perfect for fans of either respective series, and those passionate fans should definitely sign up for Arcade1Up’s email list to be notified when they go up for pre-order.
