Star Wars Anime Shorts Coming To Disney Plus This Fall (VIDEO)

In partnership with seen different Japanese animation studios, Star Wars and Disney will be releasing an anthology of Star Wars anime shorts this Fall. Star Wars: Visions aims to celebrate said universe “through the lense of some of the world’s best anime creators,” including Kamikaze Douga, Trigger, Geno Studio, and others. Check out the special look trailer below:

The Star Wars community and its creators have long taken note of the inspiration the franchise has taken from Japanese culture, and it seemed only appropriate to see what Japanese creators could do as talented animators, storytellers, and fans of the franchise. “The combination of Star Wars and anime is something that I’ve really wanted for a really long time,” said Justin Leach, the anthology’s co-executive producer.

Executive producer, James Waugh, said: “We really wanted to give these creators a wide creative berth to explore all the imaginative potential of the Star Wars galaxy through the unique lens of anime. We realized we wanted these to be as authentic as possible to the studios and creators who are making them, made through their unique process, in a medium they’re such experts at. So the idea was, this is their vision riffing off all the elements of the Star Wars galaxy that inspired them — hopefully to make a really incredible anthology series, unlike anything we’ve seen before in the Star Wars galaxy.”
