Axiom Verge 2 Has Been Delayed Until 2021
Indie metroidvania style game Axiom Verge 2 has officially been delayed until next year. Announced this past December, the sequel to the original Axiom Verge has been promised to be “not just another world,” with teasers for the game hinting at a “bigger secret” to the universe the title takes place in. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait just a bit longer to see what’s behind the curtain, with Axiom Verge 2 now slated to release at some point in the first half of next year.
Game developer Tom Happ recently released a new blog post over on the Axiom Verge 2 website announcing the delay. “Alas, despite doing everything I could to make good on my prediction, it will not come to pass,” Happ said about his initial prediction of a Fall 2020 release window. “I apologize to all of Axiom Verge’s fans who have been waiting to learn more about this universe.”
For people who don’t want to bother reading the entire blog post, the closest I’ll go to making another prediction is that it will be out in the first half of 2021. Hopefully sooner in that window than later, but I don’t want to disappoint anyone so I’ll just leave it there.”
As for the ‘why’ behind the delay, Happ has confirmed that the more sophisticated enemies within the sequel are partly to blame. “Whereas in the original all of the enemies followed a set path, in Axiom Verge 2 some enemies scan the environment for you, and if they detect you, they’ll give chase,” Happ said. Other issues involved the Address Disruptor tool, which will make its way into the sequel in a different but similar form, and a more complex art style.
All in all, Tom Happ is expecting the sequel to release at some point during the first half of next year. He closes the post by saying that, given the ongoing pandemic, anything is still possible. At least he’s being up front with us.
