Amazon’s Crucible Shutting Down Next Month
Earlier this year, Amazon launched a FPS title that appeared to be taking off until it wasn’t, which led to the devs bringing it back into closed beta. Not a bunch of information has been released since then, but a recent update from the devs has informed fans that Crucible is shutting down.
The developers recently took to the game’s website to offer one last update on the development of Crucible. “In July we moved Crucible into closed beta. We made a list of features we felt would enhance the player experience, which we shared publicly on our roadmap, and with the exception of custom games (which we expect to ship in the coming days), we completed them all,” the update reads. “With those features shipped, our next step was to evaluate the feedback we’ve heard from you, paired with the data we’ve collected, to determine our path forward.
“That evaluation led us to a difficult decision: we’ll be discontinuing development on Crucible,” the post continues. “We very much appreciate the way that our fans have rallied around our efforts, and we’ve loved seeing your responses to the changes we’ve made over the last few months, but ultimately we didn’t see a healthy, sustainable future ahead of Crucible.”
They then go on to note that the team behind Crucible will be placing their focus on New World as well as other projects from Amazon Games. As for the FPS, however, a final playtest will be held in the coming weeks in their official Discord as well as in-game. This is also when matchmaking will be disabled. Players will still have an opportunity to play the title via the custom games feature, but that will be shutting down on Monday, November 9th at 12pm PST.
