GDC Game Of The Year 2020 Awarded To Untitled Goose Game (VIDEO)
Given recent events, it’s difficult to believe that just a few months ago gamers across the web were arguing as to what game should be awarded the title of Game of the Year. One game that caught the attention of the entire gaming industry – and even wider popular internet culture – was Untitled Goose Game. The meme-worthy title, while beloved by many, was mostly left out of Game of the Year discussions for 2019. However, it seems that the little goose that could has managed to pull off one surprise victory, as Untitled Goose Game has been given the GDC Game of the Year award.
Recently premiering as a livestream-only event, GDC hosted the 2020 Independent Games Festival & Game Developers Choice Awards on their official YouTube channel. Despite the main conference being postponed, the awards event was held as planned, with the big GDC accolade of the night going to the House House-developed Untitled Goose Game. While this was the case, it was other titles that scooped up multiple other awards throughout the night. As per Prima Games, Remedy Entertainment’s Control notably took home the best audio, best visual art, and best technology awards.
Other big winners for the night included ZA/UM’s Disco Elysium, which nabbed the best narrative and debut awards, with Hempuli’s Baba is You earning the innovation and best design awards. With all this insanity going on in our world, it is refreshing to see the game industry still find time to acknowledge and praise the smaller, often forgotten titles in the industry. These are truly the best Untitled Geese of the Untitled Gander.
