All-In-One ‘Super Retro Boy’ Can Play All Your Game Boy Games
Though Nintendo may have laid to rest the Game Boy brand many years ago, fans of the portable console may want to start up the hype train again. Hardware manufacturer Retro-Bit has debuted the Super Retro Boy, a handheld with the ability to play Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance games, all in a single, modern package.
On the surface, the Super Retro Boy looks extremely similar to the original Game Boy’s look, presenting the same screen and button orientation and a rear cartridge slot. Underneath is another story. The handheld features a 10-hour, 2,500 mAh rechargeable battery, a scratch and shatter-resistant TFT HD display, and a pretty reasonable $80 price tag for when it releases in August later in the year.
To make up for the Game Boy Advance’s use of the shoulder buttons, the Super Retro Boy offers two extra buttons next to the usual A and B buttons. The new layout seems to take inspiration from the old Super Nintendo controllers. Sure, the button placement may make some games play a little strangely, but it’s better than nothing.
What’s your opinion of Super Retro Boy? Does it replace the original Game Boy in your eyes? Or do you prefer the screen-centric orientation of the Game Boy Advance?
