Xbox Play Anywhere Confirms Purchases Will Transfer To Project Scarlett
As the current console generation slowly begins to wind down, the upcoming next generation of gaming consoles loom large over the industry. Both Xbox and PlayStation are expected to launch their new systems next year, with Project Scarlett and PlayStation 5 being the current names for the devices. Project Scarlett is reportedly doing much to regain the competitive edge from its rivals, with inclusions like the most powerful hardware of the next generation, as well as possibly VR and motion control capabilities. While the Xbox One may have stumbled with backwards compatibility, it seems that Project Scarlett will fare better, thanks to Xbox Play Anywhere.
Stevivor recently spoke with Xbox head Phil Spencer shortly after the recent X019 event in London. According to Spencer, one big boon that is being planned for Project Scarlett is to include it with their Xbox Play Anywhere initiative. This program has meant that purchases of digital games can be accessible under any Microsoft or Xbox platform through the same account. Now, it will mean that Xbox One digital game purchases will transfer over to the next gen Project Scarlett without needing to repurchase. Spencer gives this reason for the move:
It is not yet clear if any exclusions will be made or how soon into Scarlett’s life cycle previous purchases will be made available, but for many this will nonetheless be a welcome feature. For those with extensive libraries of digital purchases on Xbox One and Windows, this will be as good as Games With Gold.
