Xbox Smartwatch Was Almost a Reality From Microsoft

In this day and age of technology, phones and other handy tech keep getting smaller and smaller. Portability is the name of the game, and ease of access is the holy grail. With Microsoft being one of the leading tech companies in the world, it’s not that surprising that new information has come to light regarding a smartwatch. Going back to their claim of fan of micro-goodness, the Xbox Smartwatch was something that almost came to pass; though never quite made it out onto the market.

Though there is no clear announced reason why the project was abandoned, it does stand to reason that increasingly hard to break competition of the Apple watch line and Android devices made it difficult for the “Xbox Smartwatch” to be a breakout star. Thanks to a Finnish news site, at least we get a glimpse at what could have been:

This isn’t to be confused with the 2014 Microsoft Band, which was similar in concept but aesthetically very different. The Xbox Smartwatch, as seen above, would have featured a 1.5 inch display screen with a connection to the Xbox systems such as the Xbox One and Xbox 360. Gaming notifications, pop-ups, and more would have been prevalent, but there isn’t any information regarding more that that: apps, or phone-like options.

What do you think about the Xbox Smartwatch? Would this have been something on your wishlist or was it a mercy that the project was canned before release?
