Police Arrest Attack on Titan (AoT) Editor for Allegedly Murdering His Wife
41 year old Jung-hyun Park has been arrested for the alleged murder of his wife at their home in Tokyo last year. He was the Chief Editor for the popular manga Attack on Titan back when it was launched in 2009. Last June, he had started working at another manga called Weekly Morning and no longer worked on AoT. According to Sankei News and Tokyo Reporter, Park had called emergency services last August at almost 3am, stating that his wife had collapsed.
When the police arrived, his wife was lying on her back at the foot of their stairs. She had light scratches on her forehead, but no noticeable signs of trauma to her body that would result in death, as far as police could see. Park told police that she had fallen down the stairs. It was later revealed that his wife’s cause of death was suffocation due to pressure around her throat.
Park later changed his story to say that she had actually committed suicide and had hung herself from the handrail of their staircase. He was arrested after the police were unable to find enough evidence to prove it was suicide. They had 4 children together who also lived in the home, but there was no mention of whether they were home at the time of the incident.
Our condolences go out to the children and their families during this horrible experience.
