NBA Playgrounds Offers the Shaq Fu Sequel as an Apology to Switch Players

NBA Playgrounds

Receiving free games is always a good time. Even if the title isn’t the greatest, it didn’t cost anything, so it’s no loss to the player. People are often gifted games by friends, through promotions with new hardware, or even when it just doesn’t cost anything. Then, there are the developers who offer the sequel to a 1994 flop as an apology for not having online capabilities ready for Switch players. This, of course, can only be referring to Saber Interactive’s NBA Playgrounds.

The 2v2 arcade basketball game was released near the start of last month. Once it launched, players began to voice their opinions, letting Saber know that its lack of online play was disturbing. So, the developer offered up a fix and brought the ability to enjoy the title with others via Internet. While this mode made its way to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, Nintendo Switch players were left hanging, and some were not entirely thrilled. Thankfully, a patch is inbound to rectify the situation, and to top it all off, NBA Playgrounds players on Switch will receive a free copy of Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn when it arrives later this year. Here’s more from chief executive of Saber Matthew Karch:

It’s good to be independent because no one sense checks our crazy when we look to reward a portion of our supportive, patient playerbase with something truly insane, like a free game.
It’s with tremendous thanks and appreciation to our Nintendo fans who are still waiting online play that we offer you an entirely new game absolutely free. That’s right, we’re giving away a copy of Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn for Switch to every Nintendo NBA Playgrounds player who has been patiently awaiting the first patch.”

Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn ran a successful Indiegogo campaign back in 2014, bringing in $450,000, and it was supposed to be released in 2016. However, this didn’t happen, but it is expected to release at some point later this year. For Switch players of NBA Playgrounds, you will need to have purchased the title before the patch goes live. There’s no date for this yet, so there is still time to pick up the basketball game and receive the Shaq Fu sequel. NBA Playgrounds is currently available for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch
