Humans and Apes Make Their Last Stand in Final War for the Planet of the Apes Trailer (VIDEO)

final war for the planet of the apes trailer

So far, 20th Century Fox’s rebooted Planet of the Apes series has offered moviegoers a thoughtful and action-packed look at the eventual simian rise to global domination. In the events of the last two films, ape-human relations have had mounting tension and have ultimately culminated into an all out war in the upcoming War for the Planet of the Apes. The final Apes trailer has now arrived, and it shows fans of the previous movies more of the spectacular action, intense conflict, and breathtaking CGI that have become a staple of the series thus far. Check it out below:

The new footage begins with the reveal that the child seen in previous trailers (Amiah Miller) was found alone and subsequently taken in by the ape collective. This selfless act seems to be a parallel to the ape leader Caesar (Andy Serkis) and his adoption at a young age in 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes. All this heartfelt sentimentality is short-lived, however, as the second part of the trailer shows the increased hostility that has taken place since the violent events of the previous Apes film, escalated by Woody Harrelson‘s human character known as “The Colonel”. Caesar’s dedication to preserve ape-kind (“Apes together strong!”) and Colonel’s ultimate goal of permanently “ending their kind” inevitably leads to merciless war between the two factions. As the film’s title makes obvious, these ensuing battles will decide the dominant species on Earth, a planet of humans, or a planet of apes.

Those who have been following the trilogy from the beginning know that they are in for a wild ride. From the looks of this new Apes trailer, the next big-screen entry looks to be the most gut-wrenching yet, having high-stakes from the perspective of both sides of the fight. On a side note, the blending of the incredible visual effects and the practical real world is also done incredibly well here, blurring the line between real and fake. If only humans and apes could learn to live in harmony too. Oh well. We can all see who wins the War for the Planet of the Apes when it hits theaters on July 14th.
