Final Fantasy VII Remake Save Editor Lets You Play As Red XIII (VIDEO)

The Final Fantasy VII Remake has been out for a few weeks now, and aside from some naggers, the latest Square Enix title has received almost universally positive feedback on what many consider to be the company’s most important game release since, well, the original Final Fantasy VII. One such minor complaint folks have had is that Rex XIII is entirely AI controlled, and as such is not able to be player controlled during battles. The reasoning behind this has been explained, though that hasn’t stopped a game hacker from going above and beyond and releasing an updated save editor that makes Red XIII playable.

As reported by Eurogamer, game hacker Luciano “Xeeynamo” Ciccariello recently updated his Kingdom Hearts save editor so that it also works with the Final Fantasy VII Remake, with one of the more recent patches allowing users to control Red XIII. The video shows that the character’s combat actions are similar to the others, though as of now the player is unable to change his equipment or use magic or limit breaks. So, basically, all he can do is attack, dodge, and block.

One of the more enticing features – shown promptly within the video – is the ability to play as Red XIII in other chapters than you’d expect to find him. The combat shown above is during the journey to the Sector 5 Reactor, which is an interesting little tidbit.

The Final Fantasy VII Remake is now available exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
