EA Announces SEED – A New Research Division Within the Company (VIDEO)

E3 is about more than just the hottest game titles coming out in the near future – there’s also a strong presence of the technological advances in the industry to look forward to. There’s lots to be excited about, and the party is just getting started. Electronic Arts kicked off this year’s E3 festivities with a bang that came in the form of some of their upcoming titles, but they also announced that they have a new division within the company whose sole focus is “extraordinary experiences.” Introducing SEED:

SEED is an acronym for Search for Extraordinary Experiences Division. Based on the above reel, it looks as though EA is adamant about finding the next level of gaming entertainment. Unfortunately, there isn’t a whole lot of information on the new division yet. EA’s Executive Vice President Patrick Söderlund introduced SEED and gave a very vague, but interest piquing description, calling the team small and stealthy, and that they’re analyzing “visionary content” including virtual humans, deep learning, and neural networks.

We want to blur the line between reality and the virtual world. What if instead of giving millions of players control of a single virtual character, we had games will millions of characters shaped by you, our players?”

Söderlund’s description, though enigmatic, definitely hits the mark of intrigue. The executive changed focus rather quickly to begin talking about Microsoft’s Xbox Scorpio and a new IP (intellectual property) from RPG giants, BioWare. More may be learned as E3 continues, and DFTG will keep you up to date on the hottest news from the events.
