Doctor Who Celebrates 50 Year Anniversary of Cybermen

2016 marks the 50th anniversary of the first appearance of Cybermen on BBC’s Doctor Who. The Cybermen are a race of cyborgs who are the enemies of the Doctor in the TV show Doctor Who. They were a species of humanoids originating on Earth’s twin planet Mondas that started to put artificial parts into their bodies as a form of self-preservation. This led them to become “coldly logical and calculating, with every emotion deleted from their minds.”

They first appeared in 1966 in “The Tenth Planet”. In the 2005 revival of the show, the Cybermen came back with a new origin story located in a parallel universe. A redesign took place in 2013 with a merge between the Mondasian and Parallel universe Cybermen, which made them able to instantly upgrade themselves to fix flaws and weaknesses.

Titan Comics already celebrated this milestone by having a Doctor Who comic event featuring the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Doctors released in July of this year. It’s titled Supremacy of the Cybermen.

“For the Cybermen’s 50th Anniversary… YOU WILL BE DELETED! Exiled from Gallifrey at the very end of Time, Rassilon, fallen leader of the Time Lords, has been captured by the last of the Cybermen. Now the Cybermen have access to time travel. With it, every defeat is now a victory. Every foe is now dead — or Cyberised.”

In honor of the Cybermen anniversary, the Doctor Who YouTube page posted a video about the monsters just in time for Halloween! Take a look!
