We have a few months to go before the mysterious Death Stranding arrives, and with everything that has been revealed so far, it is still difficult to tell what exactly is going on in the game. That said, director Hideo Kojima has been more open about the development after revealing the release date, and we now have a first look at the box art for the PlayStation 4 exclusive.

During the recent celebration of fandoms that is San Diego Comic-Con, Hideo Kojima revealed the box art for Death Stranding. Not only do we get to see the standard edition of the game, which features Norman Reddus’ Sam, but we also see the steel book version, which shows an alternative cover involving what appears to be the mysterious black goo from the game. “After the collapse of civilization, Sam Bridges must journey across a ravaged landscape crawling with otherworldly threats to save mankind from the brink of extinction. From legendary game creator Hideo Kojima comes an all-new, genre-defying experience for the PlayStation 4 system.

“In the near future, mysterious explosions have rocked the planet, setting off a series of supernatural events known as the Death Stranding. With spectral creatures plaguing the landscape, and the planet on the verge of a mass extinction, it’s up to Sam Bridges to journey across the ravaged wasteland and save mankind from impending annihilation.”
