Cyberpunk 2077: Players “Deal With The Consequences” Of Failed Quests

Cyberpunk 2077

Now that the world has been treated to glorious Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay, fans everywhere are still left picking their jaws up from the floor(myself included). Select press members and professionals have already seen the 48-minute demo that was recently unveiled on Twitch, but now it’s everyone’s turn to dissect the footage. That said, CD Projekt RED is diving headfirst into releasing information, including more on the upcoming game’s quests and what happens when failure occurs.

Gamers across the world have been used to “Game Over” screens for years, especially when it comes to the more difficult titles. Whether it comes in the form of “You Died” or “Mission Failure,” it’s something the vast majority of us have become familiar with. With that in mind, Cyberpunk 2077 won’t feature such a thing. Instead, failing quests will factor into how the story plays out. We saw a bit of this play out in the demo. Choices will be in abundance, and the difference between taking things easy and going in with guns blazin’ could result in dramatically different outcomes.

Essentially, failing quests is entirely possible, but players will have to deal with what comes of those failures. “What we don’t have however is a game over state, the only game over that you will get is when you die,” game designer Philip Weber recently said in a Q&A. “So when you fail a quest then it’s now part of the story, you have to deal with the consequences.”

The mission that was played out during the Cyberpunk 2077 demo gave fans a taste of this. The person in control could have chosen many different routes, which would have led to various results, spawning a host of consequences for V, the game’s main protagonist. Near the end of the demo, even the narrator says, “So many options, so many possibilities, and each will have consequences that will ripple through the game world and your story.” Sounds like Night City is going to provide a myriad of fun, and we can’t wait join the party.

Cyberpunk 2077 is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, but without no known release date in sight. Keep it tuned to Don’t Feed the Gamers as this story develops, and for other gaming goodness going on right now, check out the following:
