Assassin’s Creed Odyssey: Medusa’s Power Revealed In New Gameplay (VIDEO)

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Medusa Gameplay

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is not only looking to give players the most RPG elements of the series yet, but the series’ signature grounding in history books is taking a sabbatical this time around with the inclusion of aspects from Greek mythology. Most notably, we captured a glance at the snake-headed Medusa in a recent trailer, setting the fantastical tone gamers can expect for the upcoming outing.

A new piece of released gameplay has gone further in-depth with players’ encounter with Medusa, laying out the stone cold dangers that await with the queen of the Gorgons. Besides the ability to stare her foes into stone, Medusa has an arsenal of powers such as hurling energy blasts from the sky, superhuman speed, and summoning an army of statue warriors.

While this sounds like a hefty challenge, the journey to actually battling the creature is said to be an equally difficult one. The hunt for Medusa begins on the way through a frightening forest, where suspiciously lifelike statues and oodles of snakes are encountered with increasing frequency. This all culminates in the discovery of a large ruin confirmed to be left behind by Assassin’s Creed’s long-fabled First Civilization. This suggests that Medusa’s supernatural power is likely derived from the society’s super-advanced technology.

Actually entering the structure requires a bit of work as a key is needed in order to proceed. Exploring the surrounding area will eventually net players the item they’re looking for, but not without being met with ample hostility from the locals. That won’t be the only distraction either as the region also houses a myriad of supplemental quests that allow players to tackle smaller victories while venturing through the game. Check out the video below.

As demonstrated in the tail end of the above gameplay, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is packed full of content, both in terms of map size and wealth of missions. If rumors are to be believed, a supplemental DLC in the lost city of Atlantis could be in the cards. Based on the mysticism we’ve seen this far, an underwater journey to this location could be entirely possible. If the rumors continue the route of Medusa, the DLC will likely have players greeted by a giant Kraken with an army of man-eating sharks.
