Control Publisher Accidentally Upgrades Game After Saying They Couldn’t

Control Remedy Xbox Game Pass PC

After 505 Games revealed that only Control Ultimate Edition owners would be able to take advantage of a free next-gen upgrade, plenty of fans who already owned the game were not exactly thrilled. To make the situation even stickier, an accidental upgrade has happened after 505 said they couldn’t and wouldn’t upgrade previous editions.

ResetEra user Hitokiri03 took to the forum site (via Reddit) to mention that they own Control Ultimate Edition on PlayStation 4. What makes this interesting is the fact that they didn’t purchase the Ultimate Edition, but instead already owned the Deluxe Edition. Other users began chiming in to note that they also had similar experiences, including those who just had the base game and purchased the expansions separately, and even one who had the Ultimate Edition available to download for them after they purchased the most recent DLC.

When the whole confusing mess that the Control Ultimate Edition caused began, 505 Games stated that they would only be able to upgrade the same version of the game to next-gen consoles, meaning the UE, and those who owned anything other than the UE would have to buy the UE to be part of the upgrade. However, the accidental upgrade basically revealed that the UE is the same as the Deluxe Edition.

Unfortunately, this didn’t last long as 505 Games revoked the upgrades shortly after they were accidentally handed out to folks who were supposedly not supposed to be able to get them. After Control Ultimate Edition had shown as “purchased,” a switch was seemingly flipped and now shows that the UE needs to be bought for those who accidentally received the upgrade that apparently was not possible. Needless to say, this situation is getting out of control.

Control Ultimate Edition is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Keep it tuned to Don’t Feed the Gamers as we learn more about this, and for other gaming goodness going on right now, check out the following:
