Audio Company THX Acquired by Razer Inc – How Will This Affect Operations?

THX, who was founded by George Lucas in 1983, has been purchased by Razer Inc. In a blog post from the current CEO Ty Ahmad-Taylor this afternoon, the purchase was announced and they seem pretty excited about their partnership with their new owners.

I am happy to announce that those efforts will continue: Razer has purchased our company this month. We now have the resources of the most popular gaming hardware company in the world as our corporate parent.

Razer was founded in 2005 and has been selling a variety of products including systems, mice, keyboards, headsets and other gamer gear. They aim to utilize their new partnership in order to expand business overseas as well as harness the power of THX into the new territory of gaming, VR.

Ahmad-Taylor continued in his blog about his excitement for the partnership and what the audio companies future endeavors are planned to be. It appears that Razer will be the parent company but will allow THX to operate and sell independently. The CEO stated that they will continue on three major business focuses: Certification, THX Live!, and THX Inside.

For partners, we are offering additional certification lines. These include headphones, Bluetooth speakers, streaming video, set-top boxes and connected speakers (similar to Sonos speakers.) […] We are going to continue to grow our business, deliver value to current partners, and focus on executional and operational crispness (doing what we said would do in a timely fashion.)

This isn’t the first time THX has been acquired by a parent company. From 1983-2002 the company was owned by Lucasfilm until it was taken over by Creative Technology Limited. Only from 2012-2016 had it been operating independently until it has been picked up by its newest owners this month.
