Apex Legends Bans ‘Piggyback’ Players
Respawn Entertainment experienced incredible success earlier this year when Apex Legends surprised gamers everywhere. While the hype has seemingly mellowed out a bit, that doesn’t mean there aren’t people who continue playing and enjoying the game. That said, the devs recently released an update on the state of the title and what they plan on implementing soon, including the banning of piggyback players.
“Piggy-backing is when a player drafts off other players in the squad to carry them to a good position and level up faster but doesn’t actually participate in the match [meaning they never collect a weapon, fire a shot, don’t deal any damage, etc],” they said in a recent Reddit post on the Apex Legends subreddit. “We had been seeing some feedback from players around this and have been doing some internal investigations looking at game data to understand how many of the matches being played are affected by this behavior.
“After looking at the data and internal discussions, we’ve decided that in the future we’ll start instituting temp bans for players that exhibit piggy-backing behavior and extreme cases could lead to a permanent ban. This change will not be immediate but wanted to give a heads up to players so you can adjust that behavior.”
With nearly 800,000 cheaters banned thus far, it is safe to say that Respawn isn’t playing around with those who don’t want to enjoy Apex Legends properly. Needless to say, play the game the right way. Keep it tuned to Don’t Feed the Gamers as this story develops, and for other gaming goodness going on right now, check out the following:
