The Stanley Parable took the world by storm back in 2013. Who would have thought that a Half-Life 2 mod could evolve into such a cultural phenomenon? Now, the beloved indie title is returning with new content and on new platforms.

At The Game Awards, Galactic Cafe debuted a trailer for The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe. The developer used their trademark self-self-deprecating humor to make the announcement. It may not be the most thrilling trailer of the evening, but there’s a good chance it will be the funniest.

The Ultra Deluxe version contains new adventures for the game’s odd couple, Stanley and The Narrator. Players can make new choices—or the same terrible ones—as they explore Stanley’s empty office. The 2013 game contained 22 potential endings, so I’m hoping they aim for 50 with Ultra Deluxe. If this really is the game’s last iteration, which they swear is the case, why not go for broke?

The trailer makes you wonder just how many awards The Stanley Parable could have won were it not for The Last of Us and Papers, Please. Those two juggernauts rightfully dominated awards season, but The Stanley Parable deserved more than nominations. This game shifted the way many people viewed indie games for the better. It helped pave the way for other exquisite walking simulators like Firewatch. A game with this much cultural impact should be recognized with trophies, not just appreciative nods from committees.

Sadly, but perhaps fittingly, we may never see The Stanley Parable receive a major award. As the trailer points out, The Last of Us Part II  should also devour any attention given to the ported remake. Nonetheless, it’s doubtful that Galactic Cafe made the game for awards or money, despite the trailer’s shower of cash. No, this game is for fans who want to dive deeper into the story and new players who missed out five years ago. Count me among those ready to go exploring with Stanley and The Narrator once again.
