Following up the news of a Tomb Raider reboot movie to be released in 2018, it has recently been confirmed in a Variety exclusive that actor Walton Goggins (Django Unchained, The Hateful Eight, Justified) is in final negotiations to join the cast of the movie reboot in the role of the antagonist. The Tomb Raider reboot is said to focus on the “roots” of Lara Croft’s history rather than her more current and famous exploits. If it follows the example that the rebooted video game series has set, it may be safe to say that we are all in for a treat!

As of now, no specific details have been given as to the name or specific character that Goggins will be playing, neither has any further information been released as to the plot of the film other than that previously given. All we have been given to date is that the reboot will be focused on a young Lara Croft and have something to do with whether or not her father is alive. Walton Goggins, once completing negotiations, will of course be playing opposite Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, Jason Bourne), who has been cast as the iconic character and star of the Lara Croft film.

Warner Brothers recently announced that the Tomb Raider reboot would be released on March 16, 2018 with Norwegian director Roar Uthaug set to helm the project. The movie was said to be inspired by the recent reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise featuring a young Lara Croft as the games’ protagonist.
