DFTG Recaps The Latest Movie/TV Trailers: September 25th (VIDEO)

DFTG Movie TV Trailers September 25 Wreck-It Ralph 2 Joker Transformers Bumblebee

A new week, a new monsoon of trailers to rain down from the heavens. Making up for last week’s Netflix trailer binge, a fresh bevy of awesome movies and TV series’ have put forth their dose of hype, including the online adventures of Wreck-It Ralph 2, the Transformers spin-off Bumblebee, and DC’s striking solo Joker movie. Check out the list below as DFTG recaps the biggest movie and TV trailers of the week.

Captain Marvel

While the MCU’s first female superhero film Captain Marvel is set to land on Earth next year, the mysterious character got her showcase in the sun this past week with the premiere of her first trailer. The duration gives us a look at Carol Danvers as she drops by her local Blockbuster, meets up with a pre-patched Nick Fury, and punches smiling old ladies with fierce glee. We can’t exactly blame her for that last one with a shapeshifting Skrull invasion in the cards, and we wouldn’t want to as the hero sports a pretty OP powerset. Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8th, 2019.

The Grinch

Dr. Seuss’ classic story of How the Grinch Stole Christmas is one that’s held very tightly in most fans’ hearts, whether it be the live-action Jim Carrey film, the original animated special, or the colorfully-illustrated children’s book. The mean green schemer is now returning for modern animated adaptation from Illumination Entertainment, filled to the brim with oodles of goofy humor and delightful voicework from Benedict Cumberbatch.

Having seen a few of these funnies play out in previous footage, the newest trailer now gives us a look at The Grinch’s plan in action and the hilarious hijinks that theft implies. To the tune of musician Tyler the Creator, Grinch crafts the red suit, gets into Santa shape, and sets off to steal Whoville’s presents in overly-elaborate fashion. While definitely leaning more on the cartooney side, The Grinch looks like it’ll be a fun time when it hits theaters on November 9th.

First Man

The life of astronaut Neil Armstrong up to his famed mission to the Moon is chronicled in the upcoming film First Man, with a lot of promise featured in the production with star Ryan Gosling and director Damien Chazelle at the helm. A new trailer has premiered giving an interesting perspective of the anticipated biopic, with silent scenes of Armstrong’s arduous journey played over an inspiring speech by President John F. Kennedy. It’s all a pretty effective way to hype the upcoming film as well as portray the historical scope of the first lunar mission. First Man will launch in theaters on October 12th.

Arrow – Season 7

Following the intense events of Arrow season 6, Oliver Queen was officially outed as the Green Arrow and sent away to prison, effectively ending his run as the archered vigilante. While it’d likely be feasible for Oliver to hand each guard their behind and escape, his stay behind bars remains his method of protecting his family and fellow band of heroes. However, with prison filled with vengeful villains and an imposter Green Arrow running around Star City, maybe a breakout wouldn’t be such a bad idea. Season 7 of Arrow premieres on The CW on Monday, October 15th.

Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2

Pretty much everyone was on board with Ralph Breaks the Internet when Disney last released footage, but the most recent of these trailers may prove to be the best of the bunch. Story is the focus this time around, with arcade game characters Ralph and Vanellope on the hunt to repair Sugar Rush before it’s unplugged forever. The search (of course) lands the two in the bowels of the internet, where humanoid pop-up ads, online multiplayer, and Rick Astley’s music reins supreme.

Among the crazy montage of memes, Disney princesses, and internet trolls, we also get introduced to an extreme racer played by actress Gal Gadot, clearly channeling her memorable role as part of the Fast & Furious movies. This may be my love of Wonder Woman talking, but she’s already my favorite character in the movie. Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 loads into theaters on November 21st.

Daredevil – Season 3

After silence for an untold number of months, Marvel’s third season of Daredevil finally came out swinging with a debut trailer last week, following the brief teaser at the end of the latest season of Marvel’s Iron Fist. The footage teased a much darker mentality for Matt Murdock’s next outing, signified by his beaten resolve and jet black attire. This new trailer reiterates Matt’s desire to “let the Devil out” and “finish evil for good,” but also gives us a time frame for when we can watch this baddie beatdown for ourselves. Season 3 of Daredevil hits Netflix on October 19th.

Joker

Okay, it’s not a traditional trailer by any means, but a big reveal like this still totally counts. Director Todd Phillips’ long-brewing Joker film debuted its first footage of actor Joaquin Phoenix donning the iconic face paint this past week. The moody reveal debuted a look unlike any iteration we’ve seen from the DC villain before, looking more like a legitimate clown than a cartoonish prince of crime. Of course, Phoenix does his all in these few seconds to make the experience as unsettling as possible, suggesting a truly terrifying performance when Joker actually hits theaters on October 4th, 2019.

Bumblebee

On the surface, a Transformers spin-off based around Bumblebee doesn’t seem like it could offer too much we haven’t seen in the series already. However, pretty much all trailers we’ve had so far have presented plenty that fans can enjoy, with the film’s 80s era utilizing the source material in ways often neglected in the past. We see that the robotic homeworld of Cybertron is getting some love this time around with cameos from classic versions of Optimus Prime and Decepticon character Soundwave. Yes, the humanoid boombox even has his cassette buddy Ravage. Bumblebee will hit theaters on December 21st.
