Cyberpunk 2077 Explained “Frame By Frame” By CD Projekt Red (VIDEO)
The Cyberpunk 2077 trailer that was released at E3 2018 was absolutely phenomenal, revealing to its viewers a significant slice of new gameplay for fans to sink their teeth into. The trailer was jam packed with content, so much in fact that developer CD Projekt RED has begun a new blog series with a “frame by frame” breakdown of the trailer. Here’s the trailer as a refresher:
In the first episode of CDPR’s breakdown, it is revealed that Cyberpunk 2077 takes place in Night City, an “independent megacity in the Free State of California, run by corporations.” According to the developer, the city falls “completely outside of California and the US law,” with corporation conflicts and gang wars turning parts of the city into something akin to the Wild West.
The second episode in the series reveals just how dependent on machines society has become. From automated trash collectors to public transportation services to camera bots, it has become difficult to walk around a street corner and not run into a drone or robot.
Episode 03 of the series talks about the overarching mentality of the denizens of Night City, revealing that “the rat race is never over.” According to CDPR, the verticality of the city represents the social ladder. “People at the bottom are literally living on the streets. They look up to those inside high buildings, as they look at the common folk from above. The city dictates the rules. It creates dreams and fuels people’s aspirations. They are fed advertisement, they can peek into lives of those more fortunate and are always pushed towards the, often unattainable, dream of fame and luxury.” The social ladder concept permeates through every aspect of life in Night City, and will likely contribute in a heavy way to the game’s story.
Episode 04, the latest in the series, gives viewers a look at Lizzy Wizzy, the only human member of the controversial band “Lizzy Wizzy and the Metadwarves.” The developer reveals that while poverty and homelessness run rampant within Night City, “the life of luxury and showbusiness are thriving,” thanks in part to a small piece of technology know as braindance. “It enhances consumed mass media and, in many cases, leads to braindance addiction as people crave the life of luxury. Actors are hired specifically to perform these superficial memories, and celebrities are completely stripped of privacy as everyone can “become” them with the use of braindance. The demand for extremes also opens up an entirely new range of products you can find on the Night City black market.”
Overall, CD Projekt RED is doing an excellent job at piquing our interest with these blog episodes. For those interested in LiLi’s hands-on impressions of the game, they can be found here.
Cyberpunk 2077 releases for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One at some point in the future.
