God of War Boss Fights Will Be Optional, Says Game Director (VIDEO)

God of War

Games in the God of War franchise have always presented a visceral, action packed interpretation of mythology, with plenty of huge beasts for protagonist Kratos to violently slay. As the series has gone on, enemies have only grown in complexity and size, with some even reaching impossibly colossal heights. With the next adventure’s all new era of Norse mythology, we can expect no shortage of appropriately vicious monsters to make themselves known, the difference being that some God of War boss fights will be optional this time.

Revealed via an interview with Game Informer, God of War game director Cory Barlog answered a number of fan-submitted questions, including if players will be able to avoid some of those difficult enemies. As he hilariously tends to do, Barlog answered simply with a “yes,” but unfortunately refrained from going further into detail. Check out the answer in the video below at 13:38:

The new ability to skip over enemies marks the first time that Kratos has been able to do so, just one of many franchise conventions being flipped for the new game. In addition to optional God of War boss fights, players will also have a formidable companion in Kratos’ son Atreus, the lack of a jump mechanic, as well as lengthy nautical trips aboard boats. It’ll be interesting to see what else could be different when God of War releases for PlayStation 4 on April 20.
