Xbox Executive Claims ‘Project Scorpio’ Will Bring “True 4K”

At this year’s E3, Microsoft announced their plans for Project Scorpio, a super upgraded version of the Xbox One. This past weekend at Xbox FanFest in Mexico City (XFMC), Xbox Executive, Aaron Greenberg, shed some light on the 4K capabilities of the upcoming console.

As part of the XFMC presentation, Greenberg took to the stage in an Xbox Onesie to talk about the potential that Scorpio has to offer in the age of 4K Ultra HD:

“This will really bring the most powerful console you’ve ever seen. It will bring these really true 4K, really incredible visual games that we’ve never seen before on the console.”

“People who have spent thousands of dollars on a high-end PC are getting that experience. How do we bring that to scale in a console in your living room? That’s a big part of what Project Scorpio is about.”

As far as specifics, Microsoft is holding back most of that information until next year. When announced back in June, Xbox CEO, Phil Spencer had said that Scorpio will run at 6 Teraflops (a Teraflop is ameasure of a computer’s speed equaling a trillion floating point operations per second) meaning that the console will be a power house for processing data into rendered visuals. General Manager at Microsoft Studios, Shannon Loftis has claimed that all first party games releasing in Scorpio’s release time frame “can natively render at 4K.”

The new console will be capable of playing all Xbox One titles as well as all backwards compatible Xbox 360 titles. Newer games will run at true 4K, and previously released Xbox One titles should also run at a faster frame rate, giving spectacular clarity to the games we already love. As of right now, Microsoft has also stated that there will be no Scorpio exclusive titles, with the exception of any virtual reality games that may release for the console.
