A teaser trailer for EuropaCorp’s  Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets has dropped. The trailer is for the upcoming movie based off of the comic series, Valerian and Laureline. Luc Besson (The Fifth Element, Lucy) has returned to direct another gorgeous space opera.

The science fiction comics were written by Pierre Christin and illustrated by Jean-Claude Mézières. The comics first appeared in French magazine, Pilote in 1967 and the final installment was released in 2010. The Valerian stories have since been collected into a graphic novel format comprised of twenty one volumes and a collection of short stories.

The movie, which stars Dane DeHann (Chronicle, The Amazing Spider-man 2) and Cara Delevingne (Suicide Squad, Pan), is slated for a July 21, 2017 release. The film will take place in the 28th century, where Spacio-Temporal agents Valerian and Laureline work to maintain order throughout the universe for the government of the human colonies. Given orders by their commanding officer, Commander Arün Filitt (Clive Owen), the two set sail on a mission to the intergalactic city of Alpha, where species from all over the universe share their technology and resources for the betterment of all. The intergalactic megacity also harbors sinister forces that threaten the future of mankind. Check out the stunning teaser trailer from EuropaCorp below:

That trailer looks like The Fifth Element and Mass Effect collided together to give us a jaw dropping adventure to look forward to. Other notable cast members in the upcoming film include Rihanna, Ethan Hawke, and the voice of John Goodman. This film is sure to be a hit next summer for all sci-fi and comic fans alike.
