Eidos Boss Reaffirms Commitment To Single Player Games

Eidos Boss David Anfossi discusses single player games

It all started with a vision statement made by Eidos boss David Anfossi, in regards to strengthening studio Eidos Montréal’s core values. At one point during the statement he mentioned placing an “added emphasis” on the online experiences to be found within the studio’s games.

At Eidos-Montréal, we’re constantly working towards creating innovative and exciting experiences for gamers everywhere. In turn, we are placing an added emphasis on the online experiences in our games, striving to continually provide players with content that is memorable and impactful.

Through the inherent interactivity of online play, our universes will have the chance to thrive both now and into the future. To achieve this, we are building the teams and tools capable of supporting our ambitions. We hope you will join us on this journey!”

Of course, this being the internet, Anfossi’s words were spun around by a few media outlets in such a way that soon folks were thinking that the Eidos boss meant that the studio’s sole focus was online play. As such, it was led to believe that the developer would be shifting away from single player games. In response to the twisting of Anfossi’s words, he took to Twitter to clarify that single player games were still a significant part of Eidos’ plans moving forward.

Stepping away from the mistaken meaning, Anfossi said in a follow-up Tweet that as a studio his team still needs to push creative boundaries, otherwise as a developer they may get left behind.

In short, Eidos Montréal’s is not, in fact, moving away from cranking out quality single player narratives. And that fact alone is fantastic news for both Tomb Raider and Deus Ex fans.
