Confirmed GoT Final Season Only 6 Episodes, Special Cameo Coming Season 7
I think we all have mixed feelings about our beloved Game of Thrones coming to an end. On one hand. these upcoming two seasons will finally bring closure to the story and finally we will know who’ll keep the iron throne. On the other hand, it will be over and we won’t have any more to look forward to (hang in there Walking Dead!). The showrunners confirmed that the GoT final season will be only 6 episodes long, you know… because they hate us. According to EW, David Benioff and Dan Weiss said at the South by Southwest Film Festival,
“From the beginning we’ve wanted to tell a 70-hour movie. It will turn out to be a 73-hour movie, but it’s stayed relatively the same of having the beginning, middle and now we’re coming to the end. It would have been really tough if we lost any core cast members along the way, I’m very happy we’ve kept everyone and we get to finish it the way we want to.”
HBO hasn’t announced the number of episodes officially, but the producers seem to be certain of exactly how the GoT final season will go. Benioff even joked that they “argued over who got to kill Sansa”, I repeat HE JOKED! Nobody panic! The producers also confirmed that they’ll not be a part of any spin-off or prequel series – and if HBO does decide to go that route, Benioff says that he would look forward to watching it, but they should get some new blood for it.
Also announced at the festival, singer Ed Sheeran will have his own cameo in season 7, but nothing is known of his character or how he will fit into the show. Benioff said that they have tried for years to get him on Game of Thrones in order to surprise Maisie Williams who plays Arya. Sophie Turner who plays Sansa said that she is “still waiting on Beiber” to which Weiss replied, “You’re waiting on Biebs season 9?” This isn’t the first time a musician has been on the show, some members of the band Mastadon were in season 5, and pitcher for the New York Mets, Noah Syndergaard, will be playing a wildling this season too.
Game of Thrones season 7 premieres July 16th and we can’t wait! What do you think about the GoT final season being only 6 episodes long? Are you a fan of Ed Sheeran?
