Ghost Of Tsushima Dev Discusses How Legends Is A “Supernatural Exaggeration”

Ghost of Tsushima players are now able to jump into the action with friends thanks to the new Legends update, which brought co-op multiplayer to the popular title. That said, the devs recently discussed the game’s first major update, including how the experience itself came to be and how it’s a “supernatural exaggeration.”

Speaking with Game Informer, Sucker Punch’s Darren Bridges went into to detail when asked about the new experience that arrived with Ghost of Tsushima: Legends. According to Bridges, they’ve been working on the co-op experience since the beginning, and Legends has appealed to them for different reasons. “Legends connects to singleplayer of Ghost in the way that it is a series of stories told by a storyteller in Tsushima named Gyozen,” Bridges said.

“Gyozen is a sort of gatekeeper of Legends and he’s kind of the source of all of the stories,” they continue. “When you’re in a mission, you’ll hear him speaking as a narrator. He’s where Legends sits and how it connects to Ghost. He, along with everyone else on Tsushima, experience the events of the Mongol invasion; an overwhelming force coming into the island. Then there is one huge event and that’s when they begin seeing the Mongols start to get repelled by the Ghost and hear those stories about the Ghost himself.”

However, the new Legends portion of Ghost of Tsushima is essentially Gyozen processing and interpreting this information in his own way, and from his perspective, it couldn’t have been just one person to repel the Mongol invasion. “There has to be more than one Ghost,” Bridges said. “And it wasn’t a mortal, it was, this idea that Ghosts kind of resurrected Samurai, the warriors that have come to defend the island. That’s how Legends marries into the single player story; it’s a sort of supernatural exaggeration, a retelling of the events with supernatural influences.”

Ghost of Tsushima is currently available on PlayStation 4 along with the free Legends update. Keep it tuned to Don’t Feed the Gamers as this story develops, and for other gaming goodness going on right now, check out the following:
