Atari VCS Confirmed To Play Fortnite, Other PC Games (VIDEO)

Atari VCS Console Delayed To Increase Hardware Specs

Though not as prevalent as they were in previous years, microconsoles are still on their way out with several big names still preparing to put out their own miniature hardware. Among these devices is the Atari VCS, which is finally readying for release after hitting a significant delay early last year. While the time since has yielded a nifty retro game-streaming partnership, fans have yet to witness what the platform may offer in terms of a modern gaming environment. However, it appears Atari has answered that lingering question with a playable version of Fornite.

Availability of the Epic Games title was recently unveiled at the recent CES 2020 proceedings (via Medium), where people were able to see the Atari VCS for themselves. Shown off were aspects such as colorful menus and retro offerings like Asteroids and Breakout, but the microconsole was also revealed to house the means to play games meant for the PC–namely Fortnite. A new video now shows the battle royale title booting up in the device’s Sandbox mode, able to run Windows 10 as well as the Epic Games launcher. Check it out below.

A playable Fortnite is a pretty cool addition for the Atari VCS, especially as the device’s upgraded hardware opens up the means to play plenty of PC games through the platform. However, such a showcase doesn’t exactly put to bed concerns regarding the lack of information about new and exclusive games–features touted as selling points for the Atari VCS. With release day coming up in March, the window for new announcements has only gotten smaller, but Atari COO Michael Arzt assured multiple studios were lined up for the platform’s launch, as mentioned in a Q&A session late last year.

We have several studios lined up for the VCS launch window and will have more to say about them and their titles when we are closer to retail launch.”

Atari VCS is scheduled to release sometime in March 2020.
