Rumor: Rockstar Games Developing Medieval Open World IP

While Rockstar Games continues to provide ample content updates for GTA Online and Red Dead Online, speculation has been mounting regarding what the developer might be working on next. While rumors of Grand Theft Auto 6 and Bully 2 are proven to be hot topics of speculation, a new rumor suggests something entirely new may actually be in development, the project supposedly taking the studio far beyond modern sprawling cities and the rootin’ tootin’ setting of the Old West.

As revealed by appropriately-named Reddit user ‘Iknowstuff312,’ Rockstar may be working on a new open-world game set in the era of Medieval times. Swordfighting and dueling are said to be big inclusions of the unannounced title, with a release planned for sometime in Q1 2021. The post cites a “very reliable” source close to the studio’s happenings, attributing them to previous leaks regarding GTA Online DLC and Red Dead Redemption 2 story information before their respective releases.

In addition to the alleged information, the post teased an official announcement from Rockstar Games “isn’t that long away,” suggesting the Medieval adventure could become public knowledge very soon. With the 2019 edition of The Game Awards coming up, the high-profile proceedings could feasibly introduce such a title–especially as the event often debuts surprise “world premieres.” However, as there’s been little else suggesting this game exists, it’s probably best to take this rumor “with grain of salt etc etc,” as Iknowstuff312 says in their post. As with most leaks, it’s likely best to exercise caution until Rockstar Games issues the official word.

What do you think? Would you “go Medieval” for a Rockstar title set in the Middle Ages, or should they just make Bully 2 already?
