Zashchitniki: Russian Superhero Trailer Rivals The Avengers (VIDEO)

Zashchitniki

In the age of comic book movies, Marvel and DC have the monopoly on churning out flicks with super-powered individuals kicking butt for the greater good of humanity. So of course, because super hero films are the Pumpkin Spice Latte of the film industry this century, someone had to go out and create a copycat version of the Avengers. Guardians, or Zashchitniki, is set to release this year, and the trailer that dropped last summer is just so… so Russian we couldn’t help but take notice of it. I mean, seriously.

Zashchitniki

Look at these guys!

Zashchitniki

Winter Soldier inspired, much?

Zashchitniki

Jesus, that’s a man-bear!

To keep the hype rolling for this wild looking movie, a VK profile has been doling out updates on the production process for awhile now, and another trailer has just dropped. Unlike the first, this one is subtitled in English, so we kind of have an idea of what’s going on. Kind of. I mean, we now know that the bad guy is a Whiplash effigy who gave them all their superpowers, the man-bear spends half his time shifting between full bear and half bear/half man whilst toting a mini-gun (okay, you got me there, Russia), and the other three, well… we can’t really complain if curved-blade guy looks freaking badass and the remaining two have been successfully influenced by the Fantastic Four.

I’m not even doing the description justice. Just check out the trailer below and see what I mean:

Zashchitniki releases February 23rd and stars Anton Pampushnyy as Arsus (the man-bear), Sebastien Sisak as Ler (the Thing/Magneto), Sanzhar Madiyev as Khan (Bucky Barnes 2.0), and Alina Lanina as Kseniya (Invisible Woman with a watery twist).

This crazy looking film is directed by Sarik Andreasyan who is known for directing American Heist, and comes from Russian production company Turbo Films. Apparently, Turbo Films has a lot of hope for this movie to be a hit because there’s already a sequel in the works, so they’ve got that going for them. And to think, the only thing we Americans have to look forward to is Thor: Ragnarok and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.  I don’t know about you guys, but consider me sold on seeing this wild flick for myself.

So what do you think of this newest trailer? Are you going to find a way to see Zashchitniki for yourself? Which character most interests you so far? Who else wants a mini-gun laden bear as their friend? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
