World War 3 Gameplay Reveal: Can It Outdo Battlefield? (VIDEO)

Since the release of Battlefield 1 in 2016, the Battlefield games have been straying from the modern shooter format. You can’t really blame them since the industry had been inundated with modern military shooters ever since 2008 when Call of Duty 4 set the world on fire. Since then, however, we’ve gotten a bit of fresh air in the form of these AAA first-person shooter games harkening back to historical and future warfare in the past few years, but players out there might be missing the thrill of a new game like Battlefield 4 or something like it. Enter World War 3 from Polish developer Farm 51.

The game bears more than a little resemblance to a game from the Battlefield series. However, it does feature equipment that you might not find available in games like UAV Jammers and Hellfire Missiles that players might see in one of the Call of Duty games as a Killstreak reward.  The rewards are obtained by spending Battle Points which are accumulated based on how well players perform on the field. It looks like players will have to loadout which special equipment they’ll want to take into battle, so make sure to choose wisely!

Players can also pilot heavy vehicles like tanks and APCs (i.e. tanks). The game will also feature a robust customization system that’ll allow players to change everything from their soldier’s appearance to the way their vehicles and guns look. There is also some kind of persistent metagame that seems reminiscent of a Faction War like system where faction players who control certain areas will have advantages in that particular map.

World War 3 is scheduled to be released to early access on Steam this Fall, players will have the opportunity to give in-depth feedback, according to developer Farm 51. Who knows? Maybe this plucky indie shooter can go toe-to-toe with the big dogs!
