A Recent VR Accident Resulted In One Man’s Death
With the advancements in virtual reality gaming becoming more prominent in gamers’ daily lives over the past few years, it is becoming increasingly more difficult to avoid the latest news about the technology. For those who use the new platform, worlds are opened up that could have never been imagined before. Unfortunately, some are unable to avoid the dangers that come along with putting on the headset, as is evident by a recent VR accident that has resulted in the death of one man.
A report from Russian news agency TASS has detailed the tragic VR accident that resulted in a 44-year-old Moscow resident losing his life. This came after the user tripped while using the headset and crashed into a glass table. Senior Assistant to the Head of the Russian Investigative Committee’s Main Moscow Department Yulia Ivanova had this to say:
According to preliminary information, while moving around the apartment in virtual reality glasses, the man tripped and crashed into a glass table, suffered wounds and died on the spot from a loss of blood.”
The incident is still being looked into to uncover all of the details. It is unknown at this time which virtual reality setup the Moscow resident was using, or what exactly he was using it for. This is currently the only VR-related death we are aware of.
When using a virtual reality headset, please be sure to do so in a controlled environment. Make sure that the area being used is clear of furniture and all other objects that may be a hazard.
