Toys R Us Bankruptcy Auction Canceled, Brand Revival In The Works

When word got around that the childhood chain store Toys R Us would be shutting down, the internet got in touch with its emotional side. Real emotional. Netizens posted tributes and photos erupted all over social media before the chain toy store officially ceased all operations on June 29th, 2018. Their official Twitter account still stands as a memorial to what once was, but is that the last we’ll hear from Geoffrey the Giraffe? Turns out, there’s a brand revival in the works.

Since the official shut down this Summer, an bankruptcy auction was planned for the company and all related assets, but it turns out there is some hope after all. The event was canceled by stakeholders of the company and announced that a revival was their next course of action instead. They’ve opted for a reorganization instead of a complete shutdown, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.

Their goal is “revive the business behind the Toys ‘R’ Us and Babies ‘R’ Us brand names” and “create new, domestic, retail operating businesses.” Hopefully this means maintaining the image we all know and love for a wider demographic of shoppers. Many of those who grew up with Geoffrey the Giraffe are likely still kids at heart, or have children of their own. Perhaps it’s time to shift their marketing strategy!

What do you think of the executive decision to reorganize and rebrand the Toys R Us brand? Is this a fatal move or do you think there will be enough support from fans? Let us know what you think in the comments section below or start a conversation on DFTG Facebook page.
