Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us quickly became one of the most popular games in recent history due to its deep emotional story, terrifying landscapes, and impeccable gameplay. Released in 2013, the story follows Joel and Ellie on a cross-country adventure in a fresh take on a post-apocalyptic setting. Thanks to a new mod for the game, fans can see what it would be like if Tess decided to take Ellie instead of the game’s main protagonist, Joel.

A modder that goes by the handle Freako has created the modification to swap Joel and Tess by re-skinning Tess’ features onto Joel’s animations, and vise-versa. Using Joel’s animations does create some unnatural looking movements for her, but is still quite impressive. Fans of The Last of Us will remember that Tess dies shortly after Ellie is introduced in the game. In early versions of the story, she would have remained alive, but ended up becoming a villain. This didn’t seem to work out the way they wanted to, so Naughty Dog gave us her emotional death instead. Since the game’s release Tess has become a fan favorite, so it’s rather fun to see what would of happened if she lived.

The mod even got the attention of Annie Wersching, who is the voice talent behind the character of Tess. Wersching took to twitter to give praises to the modder, calling the mod “amazing.”
