Quentin Tarantino has been out of the limelight ever since his most recent movie, The Hateful Eight, arrived in theaters on Christmas day in 2015.  The Oscar-winning director hasn’t been resting on his laurels, though; according to sources for The Hollywood Reporter, Tarantino has been quietly putting together his latest project, which appears to be a film based on the infamous Manson family murders.  Written by Tarantino and currently without a title, the film is set to be a unique take on the story of the Manson family, with producers Harvey and Bob Weinstein attached to the project.

At least part of the movie will focus on actress Sharon Tate’s death at the hand of Manson and his followers in 1969.  The wife of director Roman Polanski, Tate was eight months pregnant when she and four others were killed.  After the events of that night, Manson and his followers were sentenced to prison.  Sources say that Tarantino is nearly finished with the script and has been approaching several A-list actors, including Tarantino movie alums Brad Pitt and Samuel L. Jackson, the latter being considered for a lead role in the film.  Other actors approached for roles in the film include Margot Robbie and Jennifer Lawrence, with Robbie being eyed for the role of Sharon Tate.

Late last year, Tarantino announced that he only plans on making two more movies before retiring, which presumably means that the upcoming Manson family murders movie will be one of his final two films.  His film credits thus far are: Kill Bill: Vol. 1, Kill Bill: Vol. 2, Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained, and The Hateful Eight.
