Spider-Man PS4 Fans Request Japanese Toei Spider-Man Costume On Twitter

Toei Spider-Man

Despite launching in September, Insomniac Games’s Spider-Man on PlayStation 4 is still giving its players reasons to return to the game, even with all of the big fall game releases that have happened since then. The studio has continued to release new content for the game, largely consisting of its big DLC story add-ons, such as the recently released Turf Wars pack which saw the return of a classic villain. The DLC has also provided several new outfits for Peter Parker to optionally wear in-game, but there’s one particular outfit of Spidey past that fans want. An uproar on Twitter has pleaded for Insomniac to add the classic Toei outfit to the game.

Jordan Gibson on Twitter made a post with the suggestion of the classic Toei Spider-Man series outfit being a DLC costume. For those of you unaware, the legendary Toei Company of Japan produced a live-action Spider-Man tokusatsu series for Japanese television in 1979 that sadly only lasted for one 41-episode season. While the series utilized a fairly comic-accurate outfit, the series’ story largely departed from the famous Peter Parker storyline. Instead, the series focused on a motocross racer Takuya Yamashiro who could also pilot a giant robot named Leopardon while fighting the Iron Cross alien army. Yeah, not exactly canonically accurate.

Aside from Gibson’s suggestion to have Japanese voice overs accompany this suit, other Spidey fans also suggested to Gibson and Insomniac that this suit would also make comic-style speech bubbles appear whenever the player character utters in-game dialogue. Considering that we’ve already had the animated series Spider-Man as an alternate suit, this would not be entirely impossible to pull off, but licensing issues might make this a difficult web to untangle.

Still, for the dreamers out there, this would definitely be a nice callback to Spidey’s international multimedia history. Would you guys like to see the Toei Spider-Man outfit in the game?
