CW’s Riverdale is Renewed for a Second Season

The show based on the Archie Comics Riverdale is renewed for a second season. The CW teen drama has grown a fairly large fanbase in its short run and Archie Comics confirmed the news of the renewal on Twitter earlier. Riverdale follows Archie (KJ Apa), Betty (Lili Reinhart), Veronica (Camila Mendes), Jughead (Cole Sprouse) and more as they traverse high school and even though the show isn’t exactly like the comics, it’s still fun to see Archie modernized and retold to a new generation in a fresh way.

The show is written by the Chief Creative Officer at Archie Comics, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, and Jughead actually narrates the show from the point of view of Archie’s ex-best friend. The show also took a notably darker turn than from the happier, more carefree tone of the comic series. Obviously, the 13 episode long first season must have done alright to gain a second season, so let’s hope it gets even better. Some fans were angry that Jughead wasn’t asexual like in the books, but only time will tell if that will eventually become a part of the show. Riverdale airs Thursday nights on the CW at 9PM ET, so check it out.
