Rage 2 Review Roundup

Rage 2 Review Roundup

As Rage 2 is just about to release, the first reviews for Bethesda’s anticipated open-world shooter have begun to roll in. From what we’ve seen of the game so far, Avalanche Studios and id Software have seemed set to deliver a decidedly vibrant and chaotic follow-up to their original 2010 game. However, what are the actual reviews saying? From the looks of the few compiled below, the consensus is on the mixed-to-positive side.

Game Informer – 70/100

“For all of its attempts at garish glitter, Rage 2 is a muted, clichéd, and uninspiring experience propped up by spectacular shooting and neverending battles that sometimes live up to the promise of a carnival of carnage.”

GameSpot – 60/100

“The wild, exceptional combat of Rage 2 contends with some of the genre’s greats, but it’s disappointing that the game’s world squanders its potential.”

IGN – 80/100

“Though Avalanche hasn’t quite figured out what makes a world feel alive and dynamic or how to make good use of its vehicles, it absolutely nails the moment-to-moment combat thanks to a Doom-inspired energetic pace that few shooters manage to pull off. Combined with a steady stream of great weapons, abilities, and upgrades, its firefights are constantly reinvigorated even as mission objectives become repetitive.”

Prima Games – “Fun!”

“Overall, Rage 2 was fun! It was campy, it was ridiculous at times, and it was absolutely on brand. I wish the studio would have invested a little more heavily in the world building aspect because there was a lot of potential, though the teams did reveal a Road Map that shows a lot more content on the way that could help make this feel a little more lustrous.”

Variety – “Rage, too.”

“When the game isn’t getting in the way of what it really, truly wants to do, you’re high on your own reward and all the nuttier for it. You might even say you’re filled with a compelling sort of rage, too.”
