Here’s How PlayStation 4 Users Can Change Their PSN ID

PSN Online ID Change Coming Soon to PlayStation Preview Program

For a number of years now, changing players’ names on the PlayStation Network has been among the most requested features for the PlayStation 4, especially as competitors Xbox and Nintendo have touted this feature for quite a while at this point. While Sony has repeatedly stressed their attention toward the matter, months have since transpired with little updates regarding when the feature may actually go live.

Well, that day has finally arrived with news coming directly from the PlayStation Blog. “We’re excited to announce that the online ID change feature on PSN is officially launching to all PlayStation 4 owners later today,” read the announcement. “You’ll also be able to change your online ID via a web browser, and that feature will also be available starting today.”

Though the ability to change players’ PSN ID is undeniably exciting, one might want to remember the fine print attached to actually doing so. Sony was also one to issue clarification, confirming that while “PS4 games originally published on or after April 1, 2018 have been developed to support the online ID change feature,” not every game has been individually tested. Long story short: they “cannot guarantee” that all the officially listed games will be 100% supported.

Those who still find themselves in a mighty need of a name change, the steps in doing so are pretty straightforward. The process is able to happen from both a web browser as well as directly from a PlayStation 4, with both featuring in easily-accessible options in players’ account settings. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like PS3 or PS Vita users will be included in the name-change proceedings, but that’s not too surprising, especially after the two platforms ended PS Plus support earlier this year. The official tutorial of how to change a PSN user’s Online ID can be viewed below:

For those using web browsers:

  • Step 1: Sign in to your  and select PSN Profile in the menu.
  • Step 2: Select the Edit button that’s next to your Online ID.
  • Step 3: Enter an Online ID of your choice or choose from one of the suggestions.
  • Step 4: Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the change.

For PlayStation 4 users:

  • Step 1: From your PS4 go to [Settings].
  • Step 2: Select [Account Management] > [Account Information] > [Profile] > [Online ID].
  • Step 3: Enter an Online ID of your choice or choose from one of the suggestions.
  • Step 4: Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the change.
