Mortal Kombat XI Announcement Reportedly Coming Soon

Ever since Injustice 2 seemingly concluded its run of post-launch content, fans have been brimming with speculation about what NetherRealm Studios could be cooking up next. As gamers haven’t taken a trip to Outworld in a spell, a potential Mortal Kombat XI has been seen as the most likely project from the developer, especially in the wake of various teases hinting at the fighting series’ next entry.

A new piece of potential news has also come to light and could very well add fuel to the rumor fire. A post to Twitter from voice actor Lalo Garza seemingly suggests not only that the game exists but is currently in the midst of recording dialogue. Garza, who contributed to the Spanish dub of Mortal Kombat X, expressed frustration that he would not return to voice characters Reptile and Kung Lao, specifically calling out localization company Pink Noise in the tweet.

A loose English translation of the above tweet amounts to:

I finally confirmed that the “pros” @PINKNOISEloc decided to remove my characters from #MortalKombatXI. How sad that a company that I wanted to end up making decisions that affect both you, consumers. Goodbye Kung Lao and Reptile.”

This post would seem to confirm NetherRealm, or at least Pink Noise, were currently working on Mortal Kombat XI, suggesting a full reveal could happen sometime relatively soon. With The Game Awards closely approaching, the event would provide an adequately large stage for such an anticipated announcement to take place.

However, as this reported news gained traction with fans, Garza has given a bit more context regarding his initial tweet. He states that he doesn’t actually know if Mortal Kombat XI is actually in the works, only that Pink Noise is localizing an MK project and did not approach him to return.

Friends, I do not know if it is MKXI, Mk 10.5, MKXYZ or whatever; The point is that for the new material and I was not summoned, but nothing happens, in this race I learned that the characters come and go like this. Thanks for your messages, I’m still working on what I love. Dubbing.”

While this follow-up message does cast doubt on whether Mortal Kombat XI is indeed on the way, it doesn’t completely douse all speculation. Garza’s posts nonetheless suggest a substantial project on the way, something at least big enough to require Spanish localization. Whether it amounts to an eleventh Mortal Kombat title remains to be seen, but we’ll likely know for sure when The Game Awards rolls around on December 6th.
