‘Minecraft Dungeons’ Announced, A New Dungeon Crawler Spin-Off (VIDEO)
Minecraft has long been a haven for creativity in the gaming realm, whether it be for surviving the blocky wilderness or crafting one from scratch. Over the years, developer Mojang has evolved the experience from a simple sandbox simulator to including more adventure and narrative elements such as with Telltale Games‘ Minecraft: Story Mode. Now, the popular game aims to build upon the dungeon-crawler genre in a new spin-off titled Minecraft Dungeons.
Announced during Minecon Earth 2018 proceedings, the game was unveiled as a throwback to the classic dungeon crawling experience, where stacking loot, armor, and weapons are key in defeating waves of dangerous creatures. These enemies will likely make up of traditional Minecraft mobs such as Creepers and Zombies, but Mojang also confirm new additions will be present as well.
Minecraft Dungeons will allow for both single and up to four-player co-op modes in the perilous journey through areas such as canyons, swamps, and the obvious setting of mines. There isn’t too much known about the story, but it involves saving the game’s villager inhabitants from an evil being called “Arch-Illager.” We get a small peek at the shadowy creature in the announcement trailer above.
Based on the footage, we can gather that it’ll likely follow an emphasis on magic and weapon combat and feature at the very least one major boss battle. All in all, it looks like there is plenty to be excited about for Minecraft fans. As this was just to serve as an announcement, more details are sure to arrive down the line before Minecraft Dungeons releases for PC sometime in 2019.
