Final Fantasy VII Remake Development "Moving Along More Than Expected," Says Director

Despite no new footage of Final Fantasy VII Remake being shown at E3 2018,  development on the long-anticipated title is reportedly coming along even better than Square Enix expected, a fact revealed by game director Tetsuya Nomura in the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu, reported by Gematsu. There were understandably many concerns when it was revealed that Square Enix had made the decision to cut out third-party companies and switch to internal development, though According to Nomura, “The direction was pretty much decided upon before we changed to internal development, and production is going well.”

The news comes just a few days after Nomura revealed that the game is finally out of early concept stages, and that the director is putting “100 percent into Final Fantasy VII,” despite his work on Kingdom Hearts III. As for when Square Enix plans on releasing new news or images, the team is currently “trying to figure out when we will put out the next news release,” according to the director. Here are the other tidbits from the Weekly Famitsu issue:

  • “Production is going well.”
  • “The scenario will also delve into the members of Avalanche.”
  • “[Development] is moving along more than expected, so please wait for the next news release with peace of mind.”
  • “While preserving the atmosphere of the original, the scenario will dig deeper into the characters, including members of Avalanche.”

While there is still no known release date for Final Fantasy VII Remake, we know that it will release first for the PlayStation 4. Hopefully Square Enix will hurry up and issue a news release to keep us sated until then.
